ALL WE CAN'T SEE -ILLUSTRATING THE NAURU FILES

This toy theatre was created after reading incident reports in The Nauru Files.
I tried to imagine daily life on Nauru from the perspective of refugee children held in offshore detention. Using recycled cardboard, a material associated with play, and impermanence, the work contrasts the idea of childhood imagination with the realities of confinement and uncertainty.

The theatre becomes a small, uneasy stage for stories that are largely unseen or ignored. While many children and families remain in offshore detention, others continue to wait for urgent medical care. This work responds to that ongoing crisis, asking how we look at what is happening, and what responsibility we hold as witnesses.
